Happy St. Patrick's Day!
While many of you know me as Armenian, there's also another half to me, and Irish half (well, at least we think that's where we come from, and hey, we've got red hair, so why not?). And so, despite working a long shift last night, I came home and decided to get crafty in the kitchen and celebrate the day with some Irish Soda Bread!
Ok, so I guess this picture gives away my little secret. It wasn't really all that crafty. It was a mix I bought at the Descanso Gardens gift shop the other day with Eric. But hey, after being awake for 20+ hours or so, mixing up anything in the kitchen involves deep concentrations and skill.
I realized though, that I've never really made bread like this before, and I didn't really even know what Irish Soda Bread was. This particular batch was sprinkled with carrow seeds and raisins. The flavors were very different than other breads I've tried, and definitely brought a new flavor to the holiday!
There it is! My beautiful loaf of Irish Soda Bread! Perhaps not the most difficult thing I've ever made, but delicious non-the-less! We ate it up with canola oil spread and jam, and my mom's lovely concoction of "scrambled tofu," which was actually amazingly like scrambled eggs, and super yummy. And then I crashed out for bed , and now off to work again tonight!
