What's in my purse??

edit

I recently saw this post on Sarah Hearts, and I got inspired. First off, I love that camera bag/purse. I asked E if he'd be cool with a camera bag like that one (we've been looking...) and much to my dismay...he laughed.  That was a no. Super bummer. Guys just don't understand a good camera bag when they see one.

But anyway, I thought, maybe looking into my purse and showing you what's always in there might give me the chance 1) to show you what occupies my time when I am not blogging and 2) to clean out my purse (definitely a priority here). So with out further adieu...because I know you are dying of suspense at what I carry around all day... here you have it!

everything

There it is... all of it. Well, not really. I pulled out a lot of receipts and pens and more lip gloss and gum wrappers, but you get the idea. These are the essential items for my every day living. The purse itself is awesome. It was a birthday gift from my sister-in-law and it's a lovely shade of pastel pink without being baby-y. And it's huge. I can carry all this goodness and more, and a jacket and a water bottle, and lunch... totally handy when you haven't eaten and you're late for a movie.... if you catch my drift.

glossy

I ALWAYS have a ton of lip gloss with me. I love the round EOS glosses - this one is Summer Fruit and it's super tasty it smells really good. I also just found that kissing lip gloss at the mall the other day and was super excited because it was like an instant time warp to being 14 when I put it on my lips. So cool. And I LOVE the Tarte lip stain in moody, it's my go-too for a quick gloss of color and moisture.

Then there is the purple pen. I carry lots of pens, but I love purple ones. I think it goes back to an English professor I had at PCC who was superstitious and would only write in purple. I thought that was weird at first, but now I use purple a lot. But I don't believe I'll be doomed if I don't use it...no worries.

And Angel lotion. I love the smell of Angel perfume, and this is just a perfect way to add a little moisture to my dry hands and a little sweetness to my day.

extra

Then there's the Covergirl compact (in some super light color). I've had this compact for a few years but when I take out of my purse, inevitably I have to use it. It's got that medicated something or other in it that is perfect when you have that "I'm about to break out" feeling. And my face gets super red, so it's good for a quick cover up. And hand sanitizer is muy importante in my line of work, but also if you travel anywhere in LA, really. Sometimes you just need to clean up, and this Sicilian Lemon scent is delicious.

nook and wallet

I love my wallet - I got it a few months back from Target and it's just the right size and a cute hot pink sorta shade. It carries all my junk without bursting at the seems. And then there is my Nook. I love my Nook because I can organize my life on it, send some emails, and catch up on a good book. You never know when you are going to have to kill some time, why not be prepared. I just started reading "A Homemade Life"  - yes, it's a cookbook - and it's really good.

sunnies

And lastly, these lovely sunnies have been so great this summer. I bought these Oakley's at a silent auction and I love them, and I love those stripes!

So that's my bag. Super big, super full of stuff. It goes with me on all my adventures, and carries my stuff and E's sunglasses, waterbottles and usually...some extra napkins from lunch.

So.... what's in your purse??  Blog about it and share your link, I'd love to read about it!

Hey World! Meet Sofie @ Strike a Prose

This is Sofie from Strike a Prose - a blog I've been following  for a few months now.  I was so thrilled when she agreed to work with me on this first two-way interview!

Strike a Prose is where Sofie writes about well, just about anything, only she does it in her fabulously fun and witty prose which keep you reading like a good book! I love that we've connected from two completely different parts of the world and yet I can totally relate to so much of what she's got to say. If you're looking for a fun & sassy blogger to follow, Sofie's your gal! Here's what she had to say about the questions I sent her.

Question 1:  What is your favorite smell?

My favorite smell is the smell of my grandmother’s Fenjal deodorant. One whiff of that and it’s like I am taken back to some safe place in my soul that holds everything that was good and precious about my childhood. All the memories are kept there, and they reveal themselves to me in flashes; like when I was five and went to the movie theater for the first time to see “Thumbelina”, or the time where my grandmother and I bought my first set of make-up (it took me some years to actually wear it). It’s all of these firsts that gives me this happy feeling inside.

Question 2:  Who inspires you the most?

I had to think about this question for about 3 years, because, well, that’s just the kind of person I am – I take everything very seriously. And after some soul-searching, I realized that those who inspire me the most are girls and women, who have enough confidence within themselves to not listen to those who tell them that “they are doing it wrong”; that they should be wearing something else, or shaving something else, or act a certain way. Although this can also be said to some degree for males, businesses all over the world have made an industry of our insecurities; insecurities that have been planted in us to make us spend more money, because we believe that we have to go through all of these steps to be societally beautiful. Only it doesn’t just make us buy a certain shirt, it also makes us feel like we have to buy a set of boobs to match, because the ones we have might be droopy or “sad” or whatever horrible words that are used to describe perfectly normal natural f***ing breasts. It’s incredibly disheartening. I am not against plastic surgery, because I think it can be a wonderful thing for some people in some cases, but the fact that there are ads on buses in Denmark advertising boob-jobs is insane. Kudos to those who see how ridiculous that is, and kudos to those who live their lives with the mission to not let this sick twisted phenomenon impact their ability to feel happy with themselves.

Question 3: What is your favorite dinner? Is it something you make, a family dish, or something from a restaurant?

My favorite dinner in the entire world is the Buffalo Chicken Pizza Pie from Albert’s Pizza in Ronkonkoma, Long Island, New York. I am telling you, my first bite of that pizza was like a religious experience. My boyfriend has finally learned that getting that for me, as a surprise is the most efficient way to woo me – if you know what I mean.

Question 4: If someone offered to pay you a ridiculous amount of money per year to do whatever you wanted to do for a living, what would you want to do?

The truth is that I have absolutely no idea, which actually scares me a little bit. I think that, if I had a dream, I would do it despite the money. If I felt I had a true calling and really felt drawn to something, then I would feel obligated to do it – for my own sake.

I love to write. I love what I do now, here, with my blog. I don’t know if I would be a professional writer (or if I could be a professional writer, for that matter), but I think it’s a wonderful hobby that makes me happy.

Question 5:  What is your favorite outfit to wear and why?

I don’t think I have a favorite outfit per se, but I’m a dress girl for sure. I wear dresses almost every day, and if I don’t, I wear skirts. Pants are like putting my legs in the slammer. Back before I discovered the freedom of dresses, I would wear pants every day, and the first thing I did when I got home was, without exception, to take them off.

Question 6:  What one piece of advice (about life, blogging, fashion, food, WHATEVER) would you give to any readers out there, what would if be and why?

1.   Be gentle to yourself.
2.   You can’t change the cards you are dealt, but you can choose how to play them.

A big THANK YOU to Sofie for being so awesome about making this happen. I hope you all enjoyed getting to know her, and I hope you check back to her blog Strike a Prose for more! You can look here for Sofie's post about ME!

my life, instagrammed

I post to Instagram a lot, and then forget to share what's going on in my life here on the blog. Here's an insta-tour of a few pics from the last 2 weeks in my life.

I've been really making an effort to go to Bar Method class at least once a week. I really love the work out and the way I feel after. Only 3 more sessions til I've finished my groupon, but I might have to purchase another 10 sessions, just to motivate myself to keep going! This is just me in the car waiting to go in, feeling pumped!

My sweet hubby got me some cowgirl boots to rock for my birthday! I didn't expect them to be so comfortable, but I could totally get used to wearing these! I rocked them at my birthday party with a dress, and it was fabulous.
Here's us on my birthday! Say Cheese!  We were at our church's 10th Anniversary and Mother's Day banquet.  Lots of food, lots of dancing, lots of fun hanging out with the family!
Speaking of Mother's day, this is a Skitch I made for my mama on Instagram so that I could let everyone know that she is not only a beautiful lady on the outside, but an amazingly creative and inspiring lady on the inside too, and I am so grateful that she is my mama!
Yes, we bought a pinata for my birthday party in true Cinco-de-Mayo fashion. And we used it. :)
E and I finally got a chance to go out together and just walk around and hang out. This last weekend was a really good one for us and I'm thankful we got some time to spend together.
Last week was nurse's week and I am still feeling the love. I got sweet notes from my patient's like this one. They even made us homemade body scrub! Talk about feeling pampered. It was a great week, and definitely a rejuvenating one as a nurse, making me remember all the awesome reasons I love my job!

Our garden is growing! I definitely have more to share soon about our gardening process, but these little strawberries are popping up and I am so excited to taste the first one!
And we have tomatoes! These were our first and so very tasty! There are a few more that are turning red, and I might get to pick them today. So exciting!

Hello 26!

Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone - and Happy Birthday to ME!  Hello 26!

All week long I've been thinking "26...wow...26!" in my head. And I know very well that that is not old, but you get to this point where you realize that you've now "crossed over" and you aren't 25. I'm now past the mid-twenties mark, past the quarter of a century mark, and saying goodbye to a  totally and completely action packed year.

25 was good. Well, that's not true. It was awesome.  So many things happened at 25, not to mention the whole getting married to the most wonderful husband, moving out, moving in, getting settled into our home, getting adjusted to life together, and now, finally finding that groove that we fit into in our day-to-day lives. When I look back at all the amazingness I was blessed with at 25, it feels like 26 is just the right place for me to be right now.

We had an amazing celebration yesterday with friends and family, the perfect way to celebrate a perfect year, and ring in another great one. And this morning I woke up (after sleeping in!) to a ton of FB and instagram messages, to texts from friends and family, and to a new day, and I am feeling inspired!

Today I am 26. So in continuing the celebration, here are 26 very random things you may or may not have known about me!

1. I don't follow astrology but I know I am a Taurus, and that bulls are stubborn. So true, and I point this out whenever someone starts to mention astrology.

2. The part I love about that is that they stop talking about my sign when I say I am stubborn. Weird.

3. I love love love love love love LOVE coffee and probably drink more of it than water on most days.

4. I know that is bad for me, but I can't help it. It's just too good.

5. I have at least 4 different means of making coffee at any given time in my kitchen.

6. We've just cleaned up the house and now the office is becoming my favorite room. I am sitting in it now as I type this.

7. For years I have had this dream to sing the national anthem at a big event  - sort of a bucket list thing. Maybe I'll get to it when I'm about 70.

8.  I am realizing that I love bright colors and patterns more and more, but I will still pick a gray sweater to wear any day (see picture above).

9. Polka dots are a new fave. I even bough polka dot shorts ...AND wore them out in public...with a striped shirt.... and I loved it!

10. I really want to go looking for a puppy today. But it's totally bad timing... I have work for the next three days, and we're going out tonight.

11. I really want to set up a space to paint so that I can just sit and paint when I want to and not have to constantly set up and tear down in the kitchen.

12. Writing out 26 random things about myself is a lot harder than I thought... 26 is a LOT. And that's making me feel old again.

13. We get TONS of telemarketer phone calls at our house and my blood pressure shoots up every time, even if they are nice. Maybe it's all the coffee?

14. Sometimes I wish I could go back to school for my masters degree in something non-nursing like textile design or creative writing, or blog creating (is that a major?).

15. Now that I am married, I totally get what everyone means when they say there aren't enough hours in the day.

16. I think my least favorite chore is laundry.

17. And cleaning up after big parties.

18. If I could just cook, craft, and blog for the rest of my life and make a living off of it, I totally would.

19. I really want to have chickens in my back yard. Fresh eggs every morning sounds so wonderful.

20. When we talk about getting a puppy, I worry about how the puppy will be around the chickens I don't yet have, and probably wont have (any time soon....)

21. When I garden in my back yard I think about what it would be like to live and work on a farm, and despite how sore I am afterward, I would totally do it.

22. I actually made a birthday wish this year when I cut the cake, instead of just thinking of a million things all at once, and it really surprised me. Sorry... it's a secret! :X

23. I read magazines and flip through pages on Etsy for inspiration when I want to start working on a project but need motivation.

24. I am re-binding my sketchbook for The Sketchbook Project and it's a lot more complicated than I thought. It is dashing all my hopes of a future in book binding.

25. At one point in time, after browsing a book at Barnes and Noble, I did think I had a future in book binding.

26. I have a job that leaves me with many opportunities, possibilities, and spare time on my days off, I may not have a future in book binding, but I have quite a future ahead and I am so ready for it!

HELLO 26 - I can't wait to get to know you!

Currenly/InMyLife

It's been a pretty busy week. I am adjusting to working the day shift and loving that I get to come home after a long day at work to dinner with my hubby. He even makes be delicious dinners ready when I walk in the door. I'm a lucky girl!

Last week I played catch up with our 52 soup project and now, I'm catching up again, still working on last week's soup, but I have a delicious idea for this week's soup, courtesy of one of the many blogs I follow. More on that later.

Now that I am working during the day, my days off aren't full of sleeping (although, today might be, I'm feeling a bit under the weather). I'm getting stuff done, cooking more, and spending more time with E when our day's off line up together. On Friday we decided to take our bikes for a ride at the beach. We rode from Huntington Beach to Newport, enjoyed some lunch and rode back. It was a lot of fun, and a good way for us to get outside, get exercise and still have a good time together. We really felt super good about it all... except that while I am usually covered in gobs of sunscreen, I only gobbed it on my face this time, leaving me with burnt shoulders, a burnt neck and chest, and burnt arms....even my hands are burnt! Not smart...not smart at all. Live and learn. Next bike ride (hopefully soon) I will be doused in block, no worries!

I also got a  chance to cook some more. If you follow me on FB or Instagram you know I posted some raw artichoke and asked for what to make. A friend posted this recipe and it was delicious. It took a lot of prep and a lot of work, but the end product was super tasty. I also used a lot of our Easter eggs to make egg salad sandwiches that we enjoyed on pretzel bread...yum! And our pizza! I almost forgot about the pizza! We finally got it right. The right dough consistency, the right thinness of the crust - It was our best pizza yet with sausage, shitake mushrooms, and olives... this one will go down in the books for a definite re-bake!

So today, I am taking it easy. I might make a trip to the market to make a new soup. Or I might just crash and fall back asleep. One thing about day shift is I am definitely not sleeping as much as I used to... which sounds weird, right? You'd think it would be opposite. But I was sleeping for about 50% of my days off, maybe even more. Now getting back to a regular schedule is awesome, but I think my body needs a little bit longer before I've completely adjusted. But it's been worth it! So so so worth it!

Anyway - until next time!

Day11/important
I'm new to the organic and local food scene and by no means am I being preachy here, I buy groceries on a budget, but watching what I eat is important to me.  I don't mean that in a dieting sort of way though it plays a part. I am talking more about know where my food comes from and knowing that was grown the way it was intended to be...not genetically modified in anyway.  I am still doing a lot of reading on the subject, but a lot of what we buy and eat is not what we think it is.  It's important to me to be a responsible food consumer. After all, we are what we eat!
Plus, aren't these veggies gorgeous???

My favorite way to start the shift. A cup of home brewed coffee with just a splash of half and half. Only one night on at work...I can do this!

Girl Power!!

Wishing all you ladies out there a very happy International Women's Day!  Let's remember the amazing women of history who brought us to where we are on a global level, and the amazing women in our lives who make us who we are today. Photo-a-day/L is for...

L is for ...Leaving town.  We're getting away for the weekend...off an a camping adventure.  E is driving and I am finishing my blanket.  Happy Friday everyone!!!

Hello March.

February really is the shortest month. Duh, I get that it's only 28 days, but it just flew by. Who knew that two or three fewer days could really make a difference. There was a lot going on this month with me, a lot of cooking and soup making, but a lot of stuff that I didn't write about as well. And I am good with that. I've been juggling my schedule and I'm happy to report that starting on St. Paddy's day I will officially be a DAY SHIFTER! :) YAY!  This means having a normal sleep schedule again. It means being home every night. It means adjusting to being new to something all over again, but I am OK with that. It does mean that I'll miss all my fabulous night shift nurses, but I will never forget the amazing things they've taught me, and I promise not to snub them the way they all think I will. ;)

March is bringing a lot of excitement already. It will be so different for E and I to be home together every night... it hasn't been like that since our honeymoon. That will take some getting used to as well, but we'll work through it.  We have more soups to cook, and more time to spend together, even if it's just falling asleep on the couch watching TV together. It will be good.

I will post separately about this month's intentions for CHOOSE, but being the first of the month, and a fresh start, I choose to start a challenge for the month.  I am going to participate in Fat Mum Slim's photo-a-day for March.   I tried this out back in July and it was a way to get me posting more.  I want to share my photos via this blog (hopefully) every day, even just as quick little blurbs sent from my phone. Of course, I am leaving town this weekend and camping where there may not be cell service, so the start may be a bit delayed, but I will be snapping away. I'm excited to start this challenge today and already brainstorming ideas for today's shot.  Here's the complete list for this month.

So here we go. March, I'm excited. Let's do this!

Choose - February update

I feel like I say this every month, but where has the time gone? How is it already February 22nd? This month has been lightning fast and super slow all at the same time, and I am really not sure how to explain that, but BAM! it's almost the end of the month. I'm sure you can tell it's been a busy one since all my soups have been posted late, and it wasn't until this last week that I finally got around to adding some other non-soup related posts on here.

I wanted to write a post to update myself (and you all, if you choose to keep reading) on what's going on with my One Little Word. Yes, I signed up for Ali Edward's class, but no, I really haven't been following along. Mostly due to issues of time, but I also didn't realize it was going to be so scrapbook/Project Life oriented, and unless I plop myself on the floor of our spare bedroom/room that has all of the stuff we don't have another place for right now, and try to hash out some craftiness, I really don't have a place to get this all done. Which is also why, after this post about my first page of Project Life, I really haven't made much any progress.  I don't really know if I want to choose to make that project a priority this year.

So speaking of choosing, this month I had posted here about practicing CHOOSE in my life. I guess this is just one of those months were I'm just not feeling it. Most of the time, it's only a faint whisper that's easy to ignore, but it seems that even when I am reminding myself of my one little word, it seems redundant and not very helpful.

I think I just need to refocus.

It's not just to practice my right to choose, or my ability to make decisions, it's about choosing the option that is best. Choosing to be open, choosing to embrace something new, choosing to tackle something scary, choosing to stay focused on a goal. Choosing to spend my time wisely, and choosing to get things done.

Well that's all well and good, and now that I've put it down in words, I guess I shouldn't choose be lazy about the errands I have to run later today. But that's all part of it I guess. And if I am choosing to stay focused on a goal, maybe I need to set aside some project life time, even if it does mean turning the spare bedroom into a crafty mess for a while. Maybe that will inspire us to actually start to organize the space a little more!

So thanks for listening, I feel refocused a little bit already.

One Little Word meets February

It's already February, and not only that, it's already the 4th. I feel like a whole lot has been going on and I am definitely digging 2013 so far. But in everything that's going on (mainly, all the cooking I've been doing), I feel like I've lost sight of a lot key points I started the year off with. I've lost focus of my One Little Word, choose. It's not that I haven't been thinking about it a lot, actually, I find myself actively saying it a lot, but not often enough and not in the times that I have needed it.

I am following along with Ali Edward's class, but since I have barely had any time to commit myself to the first month of Project Life, I'm not pushing myself to put together the crafty album bits that the class focuses on. I am, however, using the prompts and ideas to help me guide this year of choosing.

In January, the task at hand was to create 12 intentions for your word, and commit one to each month of the year. Last month I decided to "discover choose" and figure out what it would mean to my life this year. I can't say that I 100% followed suit. I spent a good amount of time telling myself to choose  to be productive. But I also spent a lot of time not choosing to ride my bike, and not choosing to stay on top of projects. That's OK though. I think that part of that involved choosing priorities. Yes, I am behind in Project Life. Do I even know if it's a project that is going to work for me? No. Am I going to continue to choose to try? Yes.

I have found that I have discovered that my word needs to be personal. It's not really something that I can explain to others easily, but it makes sense to me. Sometimes just saying the word in my head helps me decide on the spot. I've discovered that, but now I need to focus on it and channel that little word into my brain more frequently.

In February, with the start of a new month and the start of the Lenten season, my intention is to practice choose.  Not to practice choosing things, but to practice the idea of summoning my word into my head to help me focus. Help me to choose to live more simply, choose how to spend my time, choose how to allow this word into my life so that it works for me.  I'm not quite sure if that even makes sense to me yet, but I am choosing to embrace it and run.

Happy February, even if I am a little late with it.

Project Life 2013

It seems like most of what I've posted lately has been about food and cooking. It's a pretty big part of my life right now, and I love sharing that on here. BUT this blog is called "Love Well Crafted" so I thought it'd be best to post something a bit more crafted today.

If you haven't heard of Project Life, you can read more about it HERE. It's basically scrapbooking without all the glue and scissors. It's about documenting life. Even everyday life. I really wanted to do this last year, but wasn't too sure about the investments involved. I started out scrapping in a different way (with a lot of glue) and I got to document a lot my my year, but by about June, I'd pretty much gotten busy with wedding planning and training for the Avon Walk to sit and craft it all out.

This year I've decided that it's something I want to commit to. I am choosing to commit time to it. I am also choosing to not beat myself up about it if I fall  behind, or forget to add something. It's more about the memories captured vs. the time spent on it.

So far I've been printing my own pictures, and I'm not sure if I am going to keep up with that or start printing at a store instead. I'll have to weigh the cost and the time. We'll see. I purchased the Seafoam kit that Elise designed because I love the colors, the lines, the design, and I love that I followed her blog through the whole process of it being developed.

This is the front page of my album. I added two pictures from our wedding. This album is documenting our very first full year together, and I wanted to show our beginnings. I am working on the next page now, and I want it to show a little about the two of us and how we are RIGHT NOW. It will be interesting to see what has changed by the end of the year.

I'll be posting my layouts on here from time to time, depending on how they come out, how long they take, and how personal they might be. I am looking forward to getting started with this and joining the project life community. I am also hoping to use this to document my 52 soups, my monthly goals, as well as my One Little Word adventures.

Are you participating in Project Life? I'd love to hear about your experiences or see your layouts!

New Name/New Domain!

With a new year approaching and so many possibilities in store, I felt like things needed to be a little re-vamped around here. I posted a few weeks back asking for input on what you all thought about my name. And after much deliberation and a run-in at PaperSource that reminded me that "Bacheegs" is not a common word, and unless you know me or Armenian, you'd probably be reading it and saying HUH?!

Then there was the whole, "what to name myself NOW?!" discussion. With a little help, I came up with "Love Well Crafted,"  which I think encompasses a little bit of everything this blog covers. I like it, and I hope you do too!

So now you can find me at www.lovewellcrafted.blogspot.com  and you can always contact me at LoveWellCrafted@gmail.com

I hope you keep stopping by!

XO,
Me!
